BC Redesigned Curriculum

According to the Ministry of Education, “British Columbia’s curriculum is being redesigned to respond to the demanding world our students are entering. Transformation in curriculum will help teachers create learning environments that are both engaging and personalized for students. At the heart of British Columbia’s redesigned curriculum are core competencies, essential learning, and literacy and numeracy foundations.”

Important Info for Grade 12s

Hello Grads,

Please read the following important information:

Course Withdrawal

  1. A “W” will be given on the final semester 1 report card, if the withdrawal is made before November 26th.
  2. No withdrawal will be allowed after November 26th.

In order to withdraw from a course, you must speak to  your counsellor who will give you a course withdrawal form. Once this form is completed and signed off, then you will be officially withdrawn from the course.

Conference Day on December 3rd:

One of your sessions will be with your counsellor. During the session, we will be handing out and discussing your Transcript Verification Report (TVR), and your Post Secondary Institution (PSI) choices authorization . The TVR is an important official document used for graduation and post secondary admission. The PSI authorization is mandatory for post secondary admission. Please attend the session.

Post Secondary Institutions of BC Event is on Thursday, November 19th.

Burnett will be hosting a Post Secondary Institutions Day on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at lunch.  Representatives from various Post Secondary Institutions will be in the Large Gym to answer questions and hand out information and brochures.

Grades 10, 11, and 12 students are invited to participate in this event.

PSI Selection Forms

What is a PSI ?

This is a personal document that requires students to provide authorization for the ministry to release their information to outside institutions. This is a free service and should be completed.

Instructions for the Online Post Secondary Institutions (PSI) Selections Form

The only students who should submit this form are; in Grade 12 for the 2015/16 school year, expecting to graduate this school year, and applying to a PSI for September 2016 admission.

Please follow the directions on  PSI Instructions to complete the process.

Important Info for Grads

Hi Grads!

Hope your school year is off to a great start. Remember to have at least two plans for Post Secondary as mentionned iat the grade 12 assembly in the multipurpose room.

Some important dates/info for post secondary applications: Please READ carefully.

1.  Apply online through http://www.applybc.ca:

First time on the site – “Create an Account”

After creating an account, you just have to “Log In”

You must know your PEN number (found on your report card) to create your account.

This account allows you to apply for all  BC Post Secondary Institutions.

We suggest that you create your account before October 1.

2.  Applications for Langara College (September 2016) will be accepted online starting at 12:00 am on Thursday, October 1, 2015

The earlier a student applies, the better his or her assigned registration time period will be!

APPLY EARLY.

Reminder:  There will be a Langara Application Workshop on Wednesday, October 1st in the Library at lunch.  As applications are date and time stamped, you should not wait until after this workshop to apply.

3.  Applications for Kwantlen University will be accepted online starting on November 1, 2015.

4.¬† Kwantlen Application Info Session –

A Kwantlen advisor will be at Burnett at lunch (in the Library) on Monday, October 19th to answer your questions.

The application to Kwantlen is complex, so we encourage you to attend this session.

5. UBC visits Burnett on Wednesday, October 28th at lunch in the library.

Remember to have at least two plans for Post Secondary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LANGUAGE CHALLENGE EXAMS

CHALLENGE EXAM PROCEDURES 

The purpose of Challenge is to acknowledge learning outcomes which students have done in other settings and which correspond to the learning outcomes in the provincial curriculum. A successful Challenge results in a student receiving credit for the appropriate content and a mark, which is recorded on the student’s graduation transcript.

Challenge consists of registration, evaluation, and examination. Cost to register for the exam is $50 and this is refunded when the student writes the exam ($155 for international Students non refundable). Students may challenge a course only once. At this point, registration takes place in October and exams are written in late January.

Completed student applications are due back at Burnett by Friday, October 30th, 2015. Applications may be downloaded here.

The following Grade 11 and 12 language courses may be challenged for credit:

French 11               German 11

Japanese 11          Korean 11

Punjabi 11              Spanish 11

Mandarin 11 (Traditional or Simplified)

French 12               German 12

Japanese 12          Korean 12

Punjabi 12              Spanish 12

Mandarin 12 (Traditional or Simplified)

NOTE: While a challenged course will satisfy a second language requirement for university, it MAY NOT be used as one of the four courses needed for admission at some post secondary institutions For more information, please contact your school counsellor.
